The stables and coach houses of the Royal Mews are open for a few hours a week from the beginning of March to the end of October. The Royal Mews houses the State vehicles, both horse-drawn carriages and motor cars, used for state occasions. Visitors can see the Gold State Coach which was last used during The Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002 to carry Her Majesty and Prince Philip to the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral.
You can usually see the horses that are used in the ceremonial processions and draw the Queen’s carriage when she is undertaking her duties as Head of State. These horses are mainly Cleveland Bays – the only British breed of carriage horses and the Windsor greys, which always draw the Queen’s own carriage. I believe the horses are not always in the stables for various reasons, but the Royal Mews are well worth visiting for horse lovers alone
